Microscopic morphology and histochemistry of the digestive system of a tropical freshwater fish Trichomycterus brasiliensis (Lütken) (Siluroidei, Trichomycteridae) Zoologia
Oliveira Ribeiro,Ciro Alberto de; Fanta,Edith.
The digestive system of Trichomycterus brasiliensis (Lütken, 1874), a small sized tropical Teleostean fish widely distributed in South America, was studied. Tissue samples were prepared for light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Trichomycterus brasiliensis shows stratified esophagus epithelium with taste buds and goblet cells with neutral and acid mucus at the anterior region. The stomach is caecal, presenting a pyloric valve with neutral mucus cells. At the terminal portion it is surrounded by a thick muscular wall. The intestine shows two loops; the epithelium is single columnar, with acid and neutral mucus in goblet cells. Multicellular intestinal glands are absent. Granular cells are often seen in the mucosa, less in the submucosa but were not...

Morfologia do tubo digestivo nos cupins Heterotermes tenuis (Hagen) e Coptotermes havilandi Holmgren (Isoptera, Rhinotermitidae) Zoologia
Barsotti,Raquel Cristina; Costa-Leonardo,Ana Maria.
The digestive tube of workers of Heterotermes tenuis (Hagen, 1858) e Coptotermes havilandi Holmgren, 1911 was analysed under the anatomical view. The digestive tube of both species did not show conspicuous diferences in relation to the morphology, morphometry and the configuration of the digestive tube that were the aspects studied. The general organization of the digestive tube of these species show several similarity with other lower termites previously analysed.

Morphological study of the hindgut in larvae of Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner(Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Neotropical Entomology
Levy,Sheila M.; Falleiros,Ângela M.F.; Moscardi,Flávio; Gregório,Elisa A.; Toledo,Luis A..
The velvetbean caterpillar (Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner) has great economical interest as it affects the soybean crop worldwide. This work describes the morphology of the hindgut in A. gemmatalis larvae emphasizing their histological aspects. Distinct morphological regions, identified as pylorus, ileum, colon and rectum, constitute the hindgut of A. gemmatalis. A thin cuticular intima, a simple epithelium and muscular layer compose the hindgut wall, independent of the region. Microspines project from the cuticular intima in the posterior interstitial ring, between the midgut and the hindgut, and the posterior pyloric region. A single circular layer of large fibers, differing from the other hindgut regions that present two layers of muscular fibers, forms...

Post-embrionic development of the digestive tube of Dermatobia hominis (Linnaeus) (Diptera, Cuterebridae) Zoologia
Vieira,Ana Maria; Lello,Edy de.
The digestive tube of 2nd and 3rd instar larvae, pupae and newly emerged adults of Dermatobia hominis (Linnaeus, 1781) was studied anatomically. The specimens were dissected in buffer saline under a stereomicroscope, and the digestive tubes were placed on slides and fixed in 10% buffered formalin. Each tube was measured using a micrometric eye piece, and drawings were made with camera lucida. The results showed that the midgut, the hindgut and the Malpighian tubules with their ducts grow gradually during the larval development. The oesophagus and the salivary glands with their ducts grow only during the moult from the 2nd to the 3rd instar. In the pupal period, salivary glands grow gradually but disappeared after the 20th day. After metamorphosis the...
